Defense officials said the U.S. military has launched a criminal investigation into an incident Saturday in southern Fallujah that a television pool report described as a Marine shooting a wounded man at point-blank range.
The incident was captured on camera by an NBC News crew traveling with Marines in Fallujah. The Marine who fired said he believed the man was “faking he’s dead,” according to the pool report. Military sources said that is an insurgent tactic for ambushing U.S. troops.
